WIGTON COMMUNITY LEARNING & SKILLS (formerly ADULT EDUCATION) STATEMENT
During the summer, the Community Learning & Skills Centres (formerly Adult Education Centres) underwent a re-structure and has moved to an area based model. The new Allerdale Community Learning and Skills Manager is Gillian Thompson, who is based at Workington library. I have decided to take voluntary redundancy and will be leaving in November.
As a consequence of this, there will be no Community Learning & Skills staff on site to oversee and co-ordinate the courses and therefore, unfortunately, the school has had no alternative but to withdraw the use of the school buildings for night classes. The only exception is Guitar and Drum courses which are taught by a tutor who is already employed by the school, Tim Eyrl.
However, Community Learning & Skills courses being run in Wigton and the surrounding areas (currently Japanese, Dressmaking, Art, Upholstery and Creative Stained Glass) are continuing and will now be administered by Gillian Thompson, contact tel. no. 01900 706023; email email@example.com. You can check out all the Allerdale courses by looking at the Community Learning & Skills website, www.cumbria.gov.uk/learningandskills.
It is with deep sadness that I am leaving. I have been Centre Manager for some 14 years and have met some wonderful people along the way – tutors, students (many of whom are parents of pupils at the school), and staff. It has been a real pleasure to serve the community. I hope that I have left a legacy of learning for all those of you who have completed courses with us, and that you will still support the courses that are running in Allerdale.
I would like to take the opportunity of thanking all the staff at the school – including: the office staff; ICT networking support team; Site Managers and Mr. Mike Beechey, Assistant Headteacher, who has been my line manager and given me great support.
With very best wishes and a fond farewell,
