Clubs & Activities

If you are going to make the most out of your time at The Nelson Thomlinson School you are well advised to get involved in activities outside your normal lessons. You will meet new friends, will see your teachers in a different light and will pick up valuable “soft” skills and experiences which will benefit you in later life. You might also pick up some valuable House points.

It is a fact that whilst employers value good examination results they also look for important qualities such as teamwork, determination, reliability and problem solving skills.  This is the same for University applications where admissions officers are looking for much more than just a good A-level performance.

At NTS there a wide range of lunchtime and after school clubs and activities which you can get involved in. There are a huge range of sporting activities run at the school (see below). Whether you are a newcomer to the sport or a proven sports star there is a place for you. Whether it is for fun and fitness or in competitive fixtures you will be encouraged and supported by all of our sports staff, who spend hours going above and beyond the call of duty.

Similarly, in our busy music department there are a wide range of opportunities. This includes rock bands, saxophone ensemble, recorder group, big band, string orchestra and community choir. They perform in and out of school as well as entering many competitions. They also made a stunning contribution to our school play; Oliver in 2016.

At lunchtimes you could try out the Asia Club or learn a new language.  There is Reading Club, Intranet and Drama.  There is also lots of help with your subjects with staff offering catch up classes throughout the school.

In 2014 we staged the widely acclaimed Les Miserables production, selling over 1,000 tickets for this memorable performance. Our school performances run every two years.  In 2016 we staged Oliver, and Beauty and the Beast planned for 2018.
