Welcome to the
Nelson Thomlinson Sixth Form

The Sixth Form Team
Mr. Tom Priddle – Head of Sixth Form
Dr. Emma Lovegrove – Assistant Head of Sixth Form
Deciding what to do after GCSE, where you should go and what you should study, is a complex and important task. Choosing the right sort of institution to suit your needs is as important as selecting the right courses.
In the Sixth Form at The Nelson Thomlinson School we offer a range of courses, excellent teaching, a team of highly skilled tutors and are very proud of the personalised service we are able to offer all our students whether they are applying for university, or training through apprenticeships or employment. We also work hard to promote a wealth of enrichment activities and opportunities for all students to develop their softer skills in preparation for the real world.
You will find that life as a Sixth-Former is very different from your life in school up to this stage. You will be treated as an adult and that means having increased freedom and increased responsibility for organising your own work. This doesn’t, of course, mean that we are not concerned about your progress – far from it. We are proud of the quality of the teaching in Sixth-Form classes. In a number of areas our staff are national figures in their field. Your tutor will regularly discuss your academic life with you in order to ensure we maximise your progress during the development of your courses.
We spend a great deal of time on the process of career choice in the Sixth Form. The nature of relationships here is such that the advice you are given will be from people who know you well and have real interest in ensuring you make the most appropriate decisions about your future. Every year the vast majority of Upper-Sixth students get their first choice destination, whether that means accepting places in higher education, either at a university, college of further education, or embarking upon an apprenticeship or training programme.
Ultimately, joining us as a student is a serious commitment as we are an academic sixth form offering traditional A-Level courses. We place a strong emphasis on academic achievement and attitude to learning. However, it is hard to put into words just what it feels like to be part of the Sixth Form, so the best way to experience it is to contact us and arrange to visit to see the Sixth Form at work. We look forward to welcoming you.
